The Council SnapShot is interactive software that prepares a 7-page illustrated report on any council area in Australia, comparing it with 2001 and another area in Australia.
The Council SnapShot uses the first ABS data to be released from the 2006 Census, call QuickStats. It loads the 2006 QuickStats for your area and a second area of your choosing (such as the relevant state), along with the corresponding 2001 Census data. It then instantly prepares a seven-page illustrated
report.
The Council SnapShot's interactive software runs in Excel, with simple walk-though directions to help you import the relevant data on your area. The SnapShot will then analyse this data to produce a ready-to-use report can easily be published as a full-colour report, a PDF or even a web page.
Specifications
The Council SnapShot covers these areas:
- Population - growth and ages
- Social structure - households, families, marriage
- Income of individuals and families
- Community culture - birthplaces, languages, religions
- Housing - types, costs and tenures
Like our other Portraits, the SnapShot is prepared as an Excel file so you have easy access to the data, text and charts for copying into other documents or presentations. You can see the formula and trace all results back to the original data. You can even change the colours to match your preference.
The Council SnapShot loads data for any standard ABS area from Statistical Local Area (SLA) or larger. A SnapShot can be prepared for States, regions, local government areas. The only restriction is the availability of matching 2001 Census data.
The ABS 2006 QuickStats give data on residents living in the area on Census night, 8 August 2006. However, most 2001 Census statistics report on the people overnight in the area on Census night (ie excluding residents away that night, and including visitors). To get matching data from the 2001 Census, the SnapShot extracts data from two 2001 data sets - the usual residents Profile and the Basic Community Profile.
A sample SnapShot is available here as a PDF, or email us for a PDF sample on your area, obligation free.
